2026 Canstructure Competitions

Southside Competition: Saturday, February 7 - Lynnhaven Mall

Peninsula Competition: Saturday, April 25 - Patrick Henry Mall

What is a CANstructure?

A CANstructure is a unique work of art that is created by collecting hundreds of canned food items, which are then used to design and build a 3-dimensional structure that relates to this year's theme: Building a Brighter Future!

Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads' Canstructure Competition is a S.T.E.A.M.-inspired, team-based challenge that will help provide thousands of meals to local families experiencing food insecurity. Each year, this event activates youth from across our community to help address the issue of hunger while also proving an outlet for their creativity. All food collected for this event is donated to our local food banks.

*S.T.E.A.M. = Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math
