Winter Garden Club (HYBRID)

  • Parkview Community Garden 604 Hilton Boulevard Newport News, VA, 23605 United States (map)

Calling all aspiring master gardeners or just those interested in getting their hands a little dirty and tending to a garden’s winter needs!

Gardens need a lot of TLC and many hands make light work not to mention a wonderful harvest. No gardening experience is necessary but a willingness to learn and get dirty are definitely needed. With the help of our garden partners, youth will learn a lot about winter gardens and get their hands dirty while doing a variety of gardening tasks. There are a lot of projects we would like to accomplish before the spring growing season like a compost corner, rain barrel platforms, a garden mural, and even mini greenhouses that youth would use to grow seedlings for the spring.

The club will meet on Thursday afternoons in December beginning on the 3rd and will continue to meet until February 25th . Depending on the needs of the garden, the project being worked on, and the weather, we will either meet in-person or virtually via Zoom. Please check the dates below for planned in-person dates. Sign up for all three months or just one month but please check to make sure you can meet for most of the meetings for the option you choose. Email Kimberly at programdirector@yvchr.org for questions.

Our volunteers’ health is of the utmost importance so we will continue to monitor the COVID situation closely. When we do meet in-person for this project it will be outside, youth will need to wear a mask and practice social distancing to the best of their ability for the duration of the project.
