In this 4 session project youth will have the opportunity to use their creativity to promote volunteerism and literacy at the same time. Each week youth will learn and work on a different aspect of the book writing process from brainstorming to publishing with local children’s author, Paige Skinner.
The hope and goal for this project is to have a series of children’s books published that have been written and illustrated by YVC youth that we can then donate with our little libraries to promote literacy.
Youth will need reliable internet access and a webcam in order to participate in the Zoom call. The Zoom link will be provided via email to those who register for the project using the online form.
A few minutes before each 10 am Saturday session, simply click on the project link from a phone, laptop or PC. If you have never used Zoom, it will ask you to download the software. It will take a couple of minutes, so keep that in mind and plan accordingly. Youth will need to enable their webcam and microphone so they can interact during the call. Be sure to test the audio capabilities on your device prior to the project, and consider using headphones to avoid distractions.
During each call a Team Leader will lead youth through a quick icebreaker and service-learning lesson. Then youth will get to work on their book with help and direction from Paige Skinner. Youth will need to commit to all four Saturdays.
