2021 BIG BUILD Project Highlights

  • BED BUILD: benefits local children living in poverty because “No child sleeps on the floor in our town!” (partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace)

    • Youth constructed over 80 beds for local children in need

    • May, June, September and December

  • BLUEBIRD GAP FARM: benefits local families who visit the farm to enjoy the animals and green spaces situated in an otherwise urban environment

    • Youth added a top rail to the fence that encloses the large cow pasture (July)

  • PARKVIEW COMMUNITY GARDEN: benefits Peninsula Rescue Mission and the food pantry at Parkview Baptist Church

    • Youth constructed raised garden boxes (January and February)

  • NEWSOME PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: benefits students by providing outdoor learning spaces and sensory activities

    • Youth constructed an outdoor chalkboard, butterfly garden, music wall, and sensory walkway (August)

2020 BIG BUILD Project Highlights

  • BED BUILD: benefits local children living in poverty because “No child sleeps on the floor in our town!” (partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace)

    • August 1 and November 7, 2020

    • Goal: 31 beds completed!

  • GOAT CITY BUILD at Bluebird Gap Farm: youth volunteers constructed a multi-level playground designed to optimize the health and well-being of the animals

    • March 7, October 24, November 27, and December 5, 2020

  • PARKVIEW COMMUNITY GARDEN: benefits Peninsula Rescue Mission and the food pantry at Parkview Baptist Church

    • Summer of Service (June - August) : raised garden beds, rain barrels and fence

    • Weekly Gardening Club (Thursdays)

    • October 17 : garden benches

 

YVCHR's 2019 BIG BUILD Project:

A community Learning Garden & certified monarch waystation at Saunders Elementary School

50 youth volunteers. 830 hours of service.
