2020 Canstructure Competition Update

The COVID-19 pandemic has interrupted our normal way of life and continues to impact nonprofits in big ways. While we were unable to host our large-scale Canstructure event this year, a small group of YVCHR youth volunteers competed in a virtual competition with other YVC affiliates across North America, resulting in a total donation of 1,972 pounds of food to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank!

Additionally, back in the spring we were able to get access to schools that had begun collecting food for the annual Canstructure event. Many of the teams were in the midst of very successful food drives before schools were abruptly closed and the event was canceled. We are so grateful for the efforts these students and team sponsors made to participate in this year’s competition. Your collective impact was 5,243 pounds of food!

While we are not certain of the format, we are committed to hosting the 2021 event—either in our traditional format at Patrick Henry Mall or as a virtual event.

NOTE: A revised Canstructure Competition toolkit will be provided to participating teams when schools re-open.

Special thanks to our generous partners for supporting YVCHR through event sponsorship and program grants!
