The Pen Pal Project (VIRTUAL PROJECT)

NOTE: We are in need of some back up pen pals. If you would like to be one, please email programdirector@yvchr.org.

The Gardens at Warwick Forest and YVCHR have teamed up to match YVC youth with some awesome Gardens residents through our new Pen Pal Project. We have 15 residents excited to meet and communicate with someone new outside of their living facility through old school snail mail. At this time we are in need of some back-up pen pals that would create neutral cards/art for any of the residents and/or be matched up with a pen pal should one become available. Are you willing to be a source of light and encouragement? Keep reading for more details!

Required materials: PC, laptop or smartphone with webcam, internet access, stationary, pen/pencil

Youth will need reliable internet access and a webcam in order to participate in the Zoom call. The Zoom link will be provided via email to those who register for the project using the online form.

On the 13th, a couple minutes before 4 pm, simply click on the project link from a phone, laptop or PC. If you have never used Zoom, it will ask you to download the software. It will take a couple of minutes, so plan accordingly as we will start promptly at 4:00 pm. Youth will need to enable their webcam AND microphone so they can interact during the call. Be sure to test the audio capabilities prior to the project, and consider using headphones to avoid distractions. Make sure to have any other materials on hand for the recipes.

During the call, a Team Leader will facilitate an icebreaker, a service-learning activity, and then give instructions for the project. Youth will get the opportunity to enrich the life of another while simultaneously having their own lives enriched. Interested back up pen pals need to be able to commit to writing to participating at least once a month during the monthly Zoom meetings (dates and times to be determined by those on the roster). Monthly meetings will focus on making goodies for our pen pals or will be centered around a specific topic to write about to our pen pals. This is a great opportunity for those wanting to serve from home and make a big impact in the life of another.
