Food Drive in Progress:
Please Consider Donating Canned Goods for Hunger Action Month!
Mark your calendar for our drive-thru event on Sept. 15th! Drop off canned goods between 9:00am-5:00pm!
Due to COVID-19, our annual YVC Summit will be a virtual experience. As a way to unite affiliates across North America in a friendly competition that will ultimately benefit our local communities, YVC Headquarters has issued a fun challenge: Build a CANSTRUCTURE from donated canned foods and send photos by October 1st! Our affiliate is excited to participate, as this is a project that we have hosted here in Hampton Roads for area schools for many years. And we are working hard to win the grand prize of $1,000, which will provide much needed funds to sustain our operations during this economic downturn.
Please consider donating canned food and/or grocery story gift cards. All of the food will be used to build a 3-dimensional work of art, which will be on display at Patrick Henry Mall from September 27-October 2. Afterward, all food will be delivered to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank to help feed those in need.
We have several drop-off locations within McCale Professional Park in Newport News (729 Thimble Shoals Blvd.). Visit one of the businesses on our flyer between now and September 23 to make your contribution!
IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR YOUTH AND AGENCY PARTNERS CONCERNING COVID-19
At Youth Volunteer Corps, we take the health, welfare, and safety of all of our staff, volunteers, and community partners seriously. YVCHR is continually monitoring updates from the CDC and other government entities regarding the pandemic to help guide us through this ever-evolving situation.
We now offer both virtual and in-person projects with specific safety measures in place. As part of our new protocol for in-person projects, we will be conducting brief health assessments, taking temperatures prior to sign-in, requiring masks and maintaining recommended social distance as best we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this new way of serving our community while making sure to keep our volunteers, staff, host organizations and community members as safe and healthy as possible.

Thank you to all the school Canstructure teams that recently donated their collected cans to support the Foodbank during the current health crisis! Your efforts provided 5,243 pounds of food that will help feed local families during this difficult time.
